At some point in our lives, I’m sure all the females reading this (or at least those who live in areas that have them) have at least picked up a Barbie doll. Barbie and her friends have resided in homes since March 1959, but did you know her parents names? Her full name? I give you: Barbie and Friends.
*Note: Barbie and the rest of her family have the last name “Roberts.” The lns of the other dolls are listed.
Barbara “Barbie” Millicent. Barbara is a family name for me, and I think Millicent is retro-cool in a sort of way. I love the NN “Millie”.
George and Margaret . Barbie’s parents! I love George for a boy, and Margaret w/ the nn “Maggie” is cute for a girl.
Tutti and Todd. Barbie’s younger twin siblings (g/b). I have no comment for Tutti, and Todd is ok on a guy, but no my favorite.
Stacie. Barbie’s younger sister. I like Stacie/Stacy/Stacey only as nns for the regal Anastasia.
Kelly. Barbie’s three or four year old sister. Kelly is just ok for me, a little common but still pretty I suppose.
Krissy. Barbie’s baby sister. I like Chrissy/Krissy as an nn for Christina only.
Skipper. The second oldest of George and Margaret, Barbie’s younger sister. I don’t have a comment for Skipper as a given name- it would be an ok nn, but here it is just her full name!
And the friends…: (My favorites are in bold, ones that are ok are regular, and ones that I do not prefer are in italics)
WDYT? Are there favorites on here for you? Any surprises? Or are Barbie’s friends’ names just too… plastic-y?

Do they even still make Skipper? I had one (Cut her hair half off, dyed it orange and blew her head off witha firecracker the week before Halloween, My brother then tied her in a noode and hung her from the by then bare Magnolia tree for a decoration) but Josephine doesn’t, I’ve never seen one to be able to get it for her! Teresa & Belinda are her favorites and well, I have a soft spot for Ken… As for the rest of them, they have dated, for their era type names, Midge included. Wasn’t PJ, Skipper’s friend? Maybe my brain is a touch rusty, but I think so.

I think they still make Skippers. That is hilarious what you did to the poor doll!
I think you’re right about PJ being Skipper’s bud, though there isn’t a wealth of info on her on the Internet.

Barbara Millicent is very retro cool. I don’t like the nickname Barbie, but, well, that’s because there’s only one Barbie! George and Margaret are great; Margaret was my grandmother’s name so I’m in a constant state of loving it. Of the friends, I really like Gillian and Lara. Very nice for dolls.

I actually like Barbie’s parents’ names – George and Margaret. Solid names – surprisingly! But from there, I am not sure I can get behind too many names on the list. (My girl is too young for Barbie still, so I don’t have anything to rely on but memory… and all I have there is a vague memory of getting a Skipper when I wanted a Barbie and being unhappy with Skippers flat feet – no heels for her!) I never blew up a Barbie, but I did chop of hair, squish a head, and rip off hands/toes. Poor dolls are tortured!
Slightly off topic – a new passtime for me when I head to the toy aisle at the store (to allow my daughter to “visit” toys – she doesn’t yet know we can buy them and take them home, and I intend to milk that for as long as possible) is to read the “birth certificates” inside the re-hash of cabbage patch dolls. I had two when I was a kid: Danella and Julia (can’t remember the middles)… some of the names are silly, some unusual – it’s a bit of fun! Latest one I saw and remember: Maci Marguerite – not fond of Maci at all! But Marguerite is a goodie for me… Barbie names made me think of other dolls…
The Barbie friends – I kind of like Hudson… and Lara (I say that differently than Laura)… but Bopsey and Midge – yikes!

Yeah, Bopsy will never make it onto my top 10 anytime soon. But there’s something a little intriguing about Midge… she isn’t the cutest nn name around granted, but I like her coziness.
That’s so smart about “visiting” toys! You should publish that somewhere- I’m sure a million moms would be grateful.

Was there ever a male Barbie friend named Adam? He had a 60’s/70’s look, bell bottoms with silver rivets and a red long-sleeved knit shirt. He has very dark hair with side-burns & blue eyes. (this is actually dan’s wife lisa)
